Crossroads Law Welcomes Cindy Marshall, K.C., to the Calgary Team
We're delighted to welcome Cindy Marshall, K.C., to our Calgary team. Cindy is a senior family lawyer, mediator, and child advocate, who brings a depth of experience that families will be glad to have on their side.
Before becoming a lawyer, Cindy trained as a teacher, studying music and education with the goal of teaching French immersion. She spent several years working as a substitute teacher before pursuing a career in law. That background continues to shape how she works today. She is skilled at explaining complex concepts in plain language and brings a creative, solutions-focused approach to helping families move forward.
Much of Cindy's work is in mediation, helping couples and parents settle their differences without going to court. This usually means less cost, less delay, and less stress for everyone involved. Her direct style and practical approach help people move past conflict and reach agreements they can live with. To Cindy, court is the last resort. She is quick on her feet, though, and when alternate dispute resolution is no longer working, she can move to the courtroom to advocate for her client's interests.
Cindy also pairs her mediation experience with a deep understanding of parenting issues. As a parenting coordinator, she has worked with many families and seen how their structures and dynamics shape the challenges parents face. That makes her a valuable ally for parents in complex, high-conflict situations, helping them work through disagreements and reach solutions that hold up over time.
As a child advocate, Cindy can serve as a voice for children and their best interests. She approaches this work holistically, drawing on research and a range of approaches to build strategies that lead to healthier, more sustainable outcomes for the children involved. When she acts as a friend of the court, known as amicus curiae, she offers guidance on what is in a child's best interests, grounded in that experience. This is where her years in the classroom matter most. Cindy knows how to connect with young clients, so she can be a steady, supportive presence and speak up for what is best for them.
Giving back matters to Cindy. She volunteers with Calgary Legal Guidance and the Association des juristes d'expression française, and she supports organisations that help people leaving domestic violence. Her work in the community has been recognised more than once, including the 2024 Women in Law Leadership Award for Leadership in the Community and Calgary Legal Guidance's Alan D. Hunter Award for Volunteer of the Year.
Please join us in welcoming Cindy to the Crossroads Law team. We're so glad she's here, and we can't wait for our clients and our community to see all that she brings.
