Ruban Satkunan

Ruban Satkunan is an Edmonton family lawyer and legal coach who believes people make better decisions when they are informed and understand their options. Drawing on his experience in civil litigation and criminal defence, he brings a broad litigation perspective to resolving family law disputes. Whether negotiating a resolution or advocating in court, he remains focused on achieving practical outcomes for his clients and their families.

Guiding Clients Through Difficult Family Matters

Family law disputes are deeply personal and often involve issues that extend beyond the immediate legal problem. Ruban takes the time to understand each client's unique circumstances, explain the legal options available in plain language, and develop thoughtful strategies tailored to their needs and goals.

Whenever possible, Ruban works toward negotiated resolutions that reduce the financial and emotional cost of litigation. When court is necessary, he provides strategic, effective representation.

A Background in Human Rights and Advocacy

Ruban's approach to family law is shaped by his background in human rights and public interest law. His graduate research examined the overrepresentation of Indigenous children in the child welfare system, giving him a deeper appreciation for the social and personal factors that often intersect with legal disputes.

Before entering private practice, Ruban worked as a research assistant with the Public Interest Law Centre, supporting lawyers through legal research, reports, and memoranda. He also served as an editor with the Manitoba Law Journal, where he developed strong legal research and analytical skills. These experiences continue to shape his ability to analyze complex issues and provide thorough, well-reasoned advice.
