Welcome Robert Finlay, Vancouver Family Mediator and Articled Student at Crossroads Law
We’re delighted to welcome experienced family mediator Robert Finlay to our Vancouver office. Robert joins Crossroads Law as an established practitioner, bringing more than 15 years of family mediation experience while completing his articles under the mentorship of our founder and senior family lawyer, Marcus M. Sixta.
Robert is an accomplished mediator who built his career helping families resolve conflict long before choosing to pursue a law degree. Beginning in mediation—a path less common for future litigators—has given him a deep understanding of communication, conflict dynamics, and creative problem solving. These insights continue to shape both his approach and the values he brings into his work as he transitions into legal practice.
Throughout his career, Robert has helped hundreds of families move through conflict with clarity, understanding, and respect. He brings a steady, people-focused approach to every file, guiding parties through conversations that encourage insight, reduce tension, and support informed decision-making.
Robert’s background includes leading a province-wide family mediation program at Mediate BC, as well as training judges, lawyers, counsellors, and mental-health professionals in mediation theory and skills. He was also mentored early in his career by respected professionals in the mediation and legal fields, shaping his commitment to principled advocacy and interest-based resolution. These experiences give him a unique perspective on how family disputes escalate and how cooperative approaches can offer families greater clarity, stability, and control than traditional litigation.
With this perspective and resolution-focused mindset, we are excited to support Robert’s development as a litigator. His passion for justice, combined with his exceptional ability to guide people through conflict, will serve clients well as he expands his practice across both mediation and family law.
Robert’s arrival strengthens and expands the dispute-resolution services offered through our Vancouver office, and we are excited to welcome someone with his experience, leadership, and dedication to helping families find meaningful paths forward.
Please join us in welcoming Robert to the Crossroads Law team!
