Michelle is a family lawyer with litigation experience. She takes a compassionate, holistic view of family law disputes.
She understands that clients often come to her while going through hard times, when navigating our legal system can be a particular challenge. Her priority is that her clients understand all their legal options and have access to the tools they need to resolve their disputes. Michelle represents her clients and their interests comprehensively and cost-effectively. She guides her clients through the resolution process, whether towards an out-of-court resolution or through litigation in the courts.
Michelle holds an LLM from the Peter A. Allard School of Law, and an LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School. In addition, she holds undergraduate degrees from her native South Africa. She articled at a criminal law firm in Vancouver and has subsequently represented clients in family law matters all over British Columbia.
Michelle understands that not everyone has equal access to legal services, and it is important to her that this changes. As a law student she volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada in Toronto and the Law Students Legal Advice Program in Vancouver. As a lawyer she has represented clients through Legal Aid BC and continues to volunteer with Rise Women's Legal Centre, which has a focus on family law matters.
Michelle is fluent in English and Afrikaans.
Outside of her legal career, Michelle enjoys exploring our country, taking particular pleasure in our natural beauty and the diverse animal life. She enjoys exploring on foot, by bike, or on horseback, and some occasional target shooting.
